Prod. 2229 - Mr. Duck Steps Out
Ok, NOT an A. Film proDUCKtion. Thought these might be nice to see... The film's usage of animation to music is something a lot of people nowadays still could learn a lot from, if they cared to.

Secretary Marie Desnoit - this is draft no. 4 dated 10/10/1939.
My excuses for the relatively poor image quality - I only had quick snapshots of these, the originals are stored FAR away...
As noted several other places, these drafts were never historical documents, but road maps to the person responsible for the bulk of the drawings (Animator/Effects Animator). Often, mainly on features, the actual Supervising Animator is not credited.
(Note the notation for the footage: first the actual Screen Footage, then (with an * in front) the animation footage as e.g. "Scr" (= same as Screen Footage), "Scr & 1/2" (= 1.5 times Screen Footage) or "3/4'S" (= .75 times Screen Footage)).

This is one of my favorite Jack King Donald cartoons, just because the animation is so nice.
Thanks very much for posting the draft! I've got some questions about the animator's names, though.
Is it Les Clark or another Clark? I'm assuming it's Paul Allen, Phil Duncan, Don Towsley, Judge Whitaker, Volus Jones, Dick Lundy, Ken Muse, and Jim Armstrong. But who are the others? Is it Ray Patin? Emery Hawkins? And who are Peterson, Strickland, Clemmons, Morehouse, and R. Cox?

That would be Ken Peterson, Edward T. Strickland, Larry G. Clemmons, Lee M. Morehouse and Rexford (Rex) Cox. I'm quite sure Clark is Les Clark.
Ken Peterson is a guess - he was the only Peterson at the studio in 1946. Larry Clemmons turns up as story artist later - I suspect this is him. Lee Morehouse and Paul Allen have done miles of animation on mainly Mickey shorts in the late 30s - and it is amazing we don't hear of them more often...
Oh, and I'm quite sure of Ray M. Patin and Emery Hawkins, as well.
Ken Peterson appears often as more of an Assistant Director or Production Person, sending memos to animators on art classes and animation casting schedules for short films.
This is absolutely wonderful material! Between you, Michael Sporn, Michael Barrier, Mark Mayerson, Amid Amidi and Jenny Lerew, more has been done to share knowledge about the artists and history of Disney animation in a few months than had been achieved in many years previously. Please carry on posting more drafts all of you whomever you are, wherever you are, if you have some.
Oh man! Emery Hawkins worked on this? Another reason that makes it one of my very favorite Donald Duck films!
