Walt and his Animators in 1932
We've seen most of them in the early drafts - yesterday, even. Dave Hand, Ben Sharpsteen, Les Clark, Norm Ferguson, Tom Palmer etc. - here they are, in a Hyperion Avenue studio doorway, with Walt around the 1932 Academy Award, the one awarded to Walt for the creation of Mickey Mouse.
It's a very well-known picture, but I feel it is topical here.
On the image linked on the right, I wrote the names of the people. In yellow the animators, many of whom later directed. Webb Smith was storyman, credited by some with the invention of the storyboard. Ted Sears: story. Albert Hurter: story and inspirational sketches. Charlie Phillippi and Hugh Hennesy: layout. Emile Flohri: backgrounds. Bert Lewis and Frank Churchill wrote much of the music for the early Mickeys. And Floyd Gottfredson was, of course, the source of those great Mickey comics for many years...

An amazing group.
When I got to Disney, only a few of these guys were still around. I got to meet Gerry Geronomi, Les Clark and Wilfred Jaxon. Floyd was over in the production building drawing Mickey.
Of course Walt and Roy were still around. Great photo of Disney past.
