Wow! Like Boat Builders, this is another one I was really interested to see the draft for (I mean, even more than most cartoons) because it's a case where casting by sequence would not be the same as casting by character (unlike with most "Big Three" shorts).

A few thoughts:
I think that would be Art Palmer rather than Tom Palmer ... notice all his scenes are exterior shots of the trailer.
A few scenes are identified as "semi-clean up" ... does this mean that the drawings had still to be (partly) cleaned up when the draft was written up, or is it supposed to be "semi-close up"?
I thought I had identified Ed Love's animation for the final scenes, but I wasn't sure -- turns out I was right! But notice that the final three scenes (63B, 64, 65) on the draft don't appear in the finished cartoon.

Once again, thanks for all these great animation drafts!

Hi John, thanks for another insightful comment!

I wrote TOM and not ART after checking with Alberto Becattini's site. With his track record for precision, I assume his info to be correct.

I am certain they meant Semi-Close-Up. This secretarial work can be confusing, believe me, I was there (not in the 30s, but still!)

Good work on identifying Ed Love's work - as to the missing scenes, I had not noticed, as I had not had the time to go through everything in detail. This being the final draft, it would mean the scenes were animated etc, which is very intriguing!

Well this is quite nice! I wanted to see a draft of this picture. A true classic.

They say on YouTube that Les Clark animated, but he clearly has not!

This is truly one of the great color Mickey shorts. The animators are not those I assumed had worked on the film. It's eye opening, but I'm pleased to now have the correct names.
Your blog is a treasure.

Hey, Hans! You're involved with "The Lost Chords?" I didn't know that.

Russell gave us a special presentation here at Disney last week.

The cartoon is very entertaining, but I never really became a huge fan of the short, even though the animation was animated by one of the lesser-known animators at the time (the ones that weren't "good enough" to animate the picture")
