Lou Debney's son John Debney wrote the score for Iron Man 2!
He spent his childhood on the recording stage at Disney's, and saw the great Sherman Brothers at work in their prime. Now he got to be the original arranger of Richard Sherman's "Make Way for Tomorrow Today," which for him must have been a thrilling experience.

Its the first sequence we see Jack Kinney directing the crows sequence, I know he directed them, as Michael Barrier was talking about the crows in his recent posts.
It's the first we see Don Towsley animating Dumbo and Timothy, and Ward Kimball does some wonderful crows animation.
It seems so far, that George Rowley has done a number of animation effects and yet he didn't recieve screen-credit for his fine work.

I never thought Ward animated the Dumbo shots, and Don Towsley threw me off a fair bit in here as well. Paul Murry was not expected at all. I predict Walt Kelly will show up in tomorrow's installment.
I never knew Ward did the shot of Dumbo falling out of the tree. But looking at it again, I definitely can see it now. Really great scenes!
Steven: Yeah, MB was quoting himself as saying, in effect, the sequence is as much Kimball's as it is Kinney's, as Ward animated almost all of it himself... he admits this is an exaggeration, but... Ward sure animated a lot of this sequence, didn't he? Including plenty of Dumbo and Timothy scenes. And then there's Don Towsley, who had been in Ward's Jiminy unit on "Pinochio."
You know, Frank Thomas has taken credit for introducing a system on "Bambi" where the supervising animators take responsibility for the all characters in a given sequence (making their role more similar to that of the sequence director), but we can see a bit of this on "Dumbo" as well, with Dumbo and Timothy treated as a signle unit much more than Pinocchio and Jiminy were.
I wonder what Paul Murry animated. Dumbo waking up, maybe? Also, some of the two-shots of Jim and Tim are assigned to Fred and Ward, and some just to Ward. I wonder why this might be, and if originally it was intended for Fred and Ward to handle all of those scenes together?

on the 2010 commentary track someone (Andreas Deja?) says that principle animation was completed by mid May. I was surprised to hear that and now am reassured that it might not have been a completely accurate statement.

I had the opportunity way back in the sixties to sit and talk with Ward about the sequence. I sure wish I had brought along a tape recorder. Darn!
