Ah yes, I never knew Milt did Mr. Snoops or the crodociles (I thought it was Cliff Nordberg doing crocodiles).

Did you know that Mr. Snoops is actually a caricature of historian John Cukhane? It said in a Disney book I owned for years!!

John Pomeroy probably animated Penny in the 'bottle send off' at the start of the film. The work is consistent.

Shot 16 becomes subject to re-use in upcoming sequences.
There's a Jungle Book reuse right at the start of this one!

Hi
Great Blog!
I have a special love of this movie as I was just at the right age, around 8, when it came out, and as there was no thought of having your own video copy of the movie after it'd been in the cinema in those days I went a number of times to see it in its original engagement.
I don't know why it isn't more highly thought of today. Sure there are better Disney films, artistically, structurally etc, but this film has real heart and was really was quite different in it's day and a bit of departure in many ways for the studio.
It held the box office record for highest grossing animated film of all-time until the Little Mermaid swam along and smashed the records.

Anyway, now to my little comment on this section...

This is a final draft but the dialogue has changed slightly in the final print. We don't have a "Penny, do you hear me?" in shot 1.6, rather a "Penny, Answer me". Any ideas about that?

Also, I'm sure this has been pointed out many times, but it's an interesting fact, that the Penny escaping through swamp animation is a re-use of animation originated for Mowgli escaping through the jungle in 'The Jungle Book'.

David, in the making of animated films, there is always a possibility for last minute changes (unless lack of funds prohibits it). Here they may have found that the dialog needed to tie the two more together, and they recorded a new line, which should have been easy as it did not need to be lip-sync. But, of course, this is conjecture on my part...
