Prod. 2006 - Dumbo (XI)

45464748
49505152
Seq. 11 "Pyramid Act"
Directed by Norm Ferguson, assistant director Larry Lansburgh, layout Ken O'Connor.
This 3rd draft dated 2/27/41.

Animation by Howard Swift, Hugh Fraser, Warren Schloat, John Lounsbery, [Probably Ed, not John] Dunn, [Don? Ray?] Patterson and Van Kaufman.
Effects by Jack Gayek, Cornett Wood, George Rowley, Art Palmer, Jim Escalante and Brad Case. (For the latter it is my guess that he did the effects...)

I must admit that I am a bit surprised that there seems to be so relatively little interest in this. I am guessing that after my having put up Snow White, Pinocchio and the others, people have become rather ho-hum about this information. Or have I just been "away" too long? Thanks, John V., Zartok-35 and Steven Hartley, for your comments. Keep it up! I encourage all to join in the commenting!

I shall confirm that the Patterson in questuion is indeed Ray. His scenes are all furrowed and flabby, as many scholars claim it to be. Its is said he also animates the clown show later in the film.

I'm not too surprised that this is a Fergy sequence. It was either him, Jaxon, or Billy Bob.

I'm impressed how capably Hugh Fraser animates the Elephants so they look like Tytla. It's almost like Tytla is actually here! And I'm surprised Fraser didn't handle the "Out of my way, Assassin" scene. John Lounsbery comes as not too much of a surprise, he was Fergy's right-hand man until the Caballeros, it seems.

And thanks for your blessing, Hans. For a second there I thought you might be angry at all the long and drawn out comments going up. But I shall remain vigilant with my interests, I've alyways wanted to see this draft.

I am far from "ho hum" about this info... but you probably already knew that! (By the way, I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but I'm the one who used to post as "The Spectre")

You want "Dance of the Hours" animators? Here's your "Dance of the Hours" animators!

I kind of had a feeling Ferguson directed this sequence, although I had thought Lounsbery animated the pyramid, rather than Dumbo and Timothy. I'm quite surprised at how much the two of them were handled by the same animator. Woolie Reitherman, Milt Neil, now John Lounsbery.

It's also strange to see character animation by Don Patterson, but maybe it is Ray... he did animate the elephants in "Dance of the Hours" after all...

Hans, don't worry, even though some people may have been a bit "ho-hum" from your draft info, but I'm not, I'm always looking forward to your next postings, and I love giving you comments because I love this website. =-)

About the Pyramid Act, well, its a change from Wilfred Jackson and Terrell Stapp, over the last posts, and he see more of Norm Ferguson and Ken O'Connor, and I think its more of Ray Patterson, since he worked in Ferguson's unit, I always thought that Don Towsley did the pyramids or Harvey Toombs did, I don't know why but I just did.

It seems that Ernie Nordli isn't credited on the other Ferguson sequences so far, I wonder why that is, probably because he was doing artwork.

(Just a quick note to John V:)

John you used to be 'the spectre'? Wow, I remember reading the Pinocchio draft and I saw 'the spectre' all over the place, and then after the posts of the draft, I thought that the name had disappeared, but I realised that it was actually you the whole time!

Wow! =-D

My school does have computers, but I can't get into the website in school, because its blocked!

There may be another Patterson-style confusion with "Schloat" here. Notice the different spelling from the the earlier sequences (maybe down to a different typist, but maybe not). While Alberto only lists Warren Schloat as working on "Dumbo", he lists a Don Schloat as animating on te 1941 short "Pluto's Playmate", directed by... Norm Ferguson. (But, he also says Warren worked on "Pluto, [19]41", so there may be some confusion already)
